If your child were not able to see, would you know it? Not necessarily. In fact, your child may not know it either. According to Prevent Blindness America , young children often don’t know they have a vision problem because they don’t realize that not everyone sees the world the way they do.

Untreated vision problems can lead to academic problems and even permanent vision loss in some cases.

That’s where we step in. Partnering with Lions Club volunteers, we screen thousands of children every year for visual acuity and eye muscle balance. And with a growing partnership with Sight Savers America, we work to make sure that referrals are followed up on, and the children receive the eye care they need.

As the aging population of Alabama increases, so do the chances of detecting vision problems in adults. Alabama Lions Sight and Lions Club volunteers set up vision screenings in communities across the state to test adults for visual acuity, and identify those at risk for glaucoma. Qualified adults that fail the screenings are referred to Alabama Lions Sight for financial assistance with eye care.
